This 1981 Handbook provides information related principally to families of thermoplastics reinforced with strand “G” glass. The Handbook content, while limited to molding materials, advises the reader that other forms of thermoplastic materials, such as foams and elastomers, are also glass reinforced. The wealth of detail and information presented will acquaint U.S. Army Materiel Development and Readiness Command personnel with the range of available materials and their unique mechanical, electrical, and physical properties; fabrication processes, including joining, together with their advantages and disadvantages; and areas of glass-reinforced thermoplastics (GRTP) application. Thus potential uses of GRTPs, with their attendant lower cost and ease of production, are suggested for the design and procurement of Army materiel. The Handbook features the relationships between the GRTPs and their properties with relationships displayed both in tabular form and graphically. The influence of composite variables on properties is similarly displayed.
